How to report without risking privacy
Useful tips do not need a child’s name in public. Protect students and families while still giving moderators enough to review.
Remember. Published Tracker items are moderated parent tips, not proven fact
and not an official school record. Documents and corroboration raise confidence on the trust ladder.
Keep out of public fields
- Student names, initials that identify a small class, medical details, or home addresses.
- Photos of children, classmates, or staff faces.
- Unredacted screenshots that show emails, student numbers, or other parents’ contact info.
What works well in the public tip
- Board, school (or “board-wide”), grade band, date or school year, and category.
- A short factual title: material type, event, or notice — without naming children.
- What you are asking the school for (outline, notice, opt-out form), not a verdict.
Evidence notes for moderators (not public)
- Use the evidence / notes field for context moderators need: how you know, links to agendas, file names.
- Redact screenshots before upload — black out names, faces, and personal data.
- Prefer board PDFs, public agendas, and notices over private message threads.
What becomes public vs private
- Public after moderation: title, category, board/school, grade band, short description you marked for publication.
- Private: contact email, moderator-only evidence notes, raw uploads that fail review.
- Rejected or pending: never shown on the public Tracker.
Before you submit
- Read the trust ladder on Tracker (parent tip → corroborated → document on file).
- Strip personal data from every attachment.
- Ask: “Would I be comfortable if another parent saw only the public fields?”
